The Friendly Visiting Program

The Friendly Visiting Program is a support service for isolated and lonely seniors or adults with disabilities. It is designed to provide support and companionship to these individuals on a regular basis. The program provides clients with visits in their own homes; this helps them maintain social contact and integrates them more effectively into their community.

Each senior is matched with a friendly volunteer who will visit once a week at a mutually agreeable time. Efforts are made to match seniors with volunteers who share similar interests. The volunteer visitor provides support through visiting, assistance with crafts, letter writing, reading, and other activities as identified by clients. They also provide family support, allowing the caregiver a few hours a week to do necessary errands or maintain outside interests.

The goals of the program are to improve the health and well-being of isolated seniors through regular visits to the client’s home or out in the community and to encourage active and independent living.

Weekly visits to seniors who are lonely and in need of companionship.
